Mell, aka BattleAx Bunny is a Trinidadian born, Canadian based Interdisciplinary Artist and Graphic Designer. She has been a professional designer for over 18 years and though she has only recently considered herself a professional artist, she has been creating art for as long as she can remember. She is a collector of technique and enjoys learning new ways of making, if her collection of art supplies is anything to go by.

She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at School of Art, University of Manitoba and has recently completed her Masters Degree in Fine Arts in Craft Media (with distinction) at Alberta University of the Arts focusing on Trinidad and Tobago folklore and creolization through the creation of a graphic novel created out of textiles and a final installation that turned the gallery into a forest build out of fabric.

She enjoys curating and making space for up and coming artists; she has created several opportunities for students at the School of Art, U of M, and AU Arts to show there work both in and out of school. She was a board member of CARFAC MB, and is currently the Co-Director of Stride Art Gallery in Calgary. She hopes to be doing more larger scale installation works despite constantly telling herself ‘never again’.
